When they feed on plants, they inject dissolving saliva that turns the desired leaves into a fluid slurry. When threatened, they produce an extreme version of a "freshly cut grass" scent.

The florida leaf-footed bug (Acanthocephala femorata) gets its name because the males have large, swollen legs, but the females have more slender legs.
