How to identify it?
Male
The abdomen of male adults has dark purple dorsal stripes and bright blue pleural stripes. In low temperatures, the blue stripes turn purple and may get very dark; they also may fuse with the dorsal stripes to form an evenly purple abdomen.

Female
The common Green Darner is vividly colored. Its thorax is green, and its abdomen, in adult females, is rusty-brown to purple. It has gigantic compound eyes and setaceous antenna.
