How to identify it?
Male
The tail of the male common scorpion fly has conspicuous red genitalia.
Female
The common scorpion fly has a medium-sized, slender, long body. The prothorax is short, and the abdomen has alternating yellow and black. The female has a pair of short cerci at the end of the abdomen. Its long, narrow wings are membranous, with pagina sporting irregular black spots.
