Description
Despite their delicate, almost ethereal appearance, members of the Aleyrodidae family, commonly known as whiteflies, are far from benign garden visitors. These tiny insects, resembling miniature moths, are notorious for their role in agriculture as persistent pests. A fascinating aspect of Aleyrodidae is their complex relationship with ants; some ants protect the whiteflies in exchange for honeydew, a sugary secretion. Scientifically, Aleyrodidae demonstrates remarkable survival strategies, adapting to various environments by developing resistance to many pesticides, thus presenting ongoing challenges in pest management.
