Description
Members of the genus Antheraea are often noted for their strikingly large silk-producing caterpillars. One fascinating aspect of these creatures is the commercial use of their silk, known as 'tussar silk,' which is valued for its rich texture and natural gold color. Contrary to popular belief, these moths are completely harmless, as they lack the mouthparts to bite or sting. During their lifecycle, these caterpillars transform into moths where the females are generally larger.
