Description
Members of the genus Arilus are part of a unique group known as wheel bugs, notable for the cogwheel-like crest on their thorax. These predatory insects play a potent role in controlling pest populations. A fascinating aspect about Arilus is their method of predation, which involves a strong beak to inject toxins that liquefy the insides of their prey, allowing them to consume it. Despite their menacing appearance, they are beneficial to gardens by keeping pest numbers in check.
