Description
Unbeknownst to many, Bibionidae play a pivotal role in the ecosystem as pollinators and decomposers. A unique aspect of the Bibionidae is their mating behavior; the swarms that are often seen are males, gathering to compete for females, showcasing a dramatic display of nature's rituals. Contrary to the sometimes negative perception due to their abundance in certain seasons, they are mostly harmless to humans and contribute significantly to the balance of nature by aiding in the decomposition of organic matter and nitrogen cycling.
