Blaniulidae common in the damp, underfoot world we seldom explore, are ground-dwelling millipedes, not to be mistaken for worms or insects. Despite their unassuming appearance, these creatures play a pivotal role in decomposing organic matter, thus enhancing soil fertility. Contrary to the belief that all millipedes in this family can be harmful to plant roots, most Blaniulidae millipedes actually prevent the buildup of harmful detritus and support nutrient recycling—a quintessential example of nature's unseen janitors at work.
