Description

Caliroa is a genus of sawflies renowned for their unique larval stage, which closely resembles slug due to their slimy, protective coating. This adaptation not only deters predators but also baffles many into believing they are dealing with gastropods, not insect larvae. Intriguingly, these larvae are voracious leaf-eaters, often causing significant damage to fruit trees and ornamental plants, showcasing how appearances in nature can be deceiving.
