Members of the Clastopteridae are uniquely captivating within the realm of small insects, engaging in a striking method of self-defense. Unlike their more aggressive relatives in the insect world, these spittlebugs employ a fascinating strategy: they create a frothy foam to envelop themselves during their immature, nymph stages. Commonly mistaken as mere dew or spit on plants, this foam serves as a protective barrier against predators and environmental hazards.
