Door snails
Scientific name: Clausiliidae
Description
The Clausiliidae are unique among gastropods for their complex locking mechanisms, or clausilia, which seal their shell openings and protect them from predators and dehydration—ingeniously using their own anatomy as a custom-fitted door! Misconceptions might lead one to believe these snails could use their 'door' to attach or stick to surfaces like typical land snails, but in reality, the clausilium (door) swings free, acting more like a gate than adhesive.
