Description

Coptotermes is often mistakenly believed to be a minor nuisance. In reality, members of this genus are among the most destructive pests, causing substantial structural damage to buildings by consuming wood. Unlike what some might think, these creatures do not eat wood for its nutritional value but rather digest the cellulose it contains with the help of symbiotic microorganisms housed in their guts.
