Description
Members of the Cossidae family, exhibit a fascinating phenomenon of mimicry and adaptation. These moths are nocturnal and often misunderstood due to their unusual wood-boring larvae. Contrary to the destructive label often given to them, the larvae play an essential role in the ecosystem by aiding in the decomposition of dead trees, thus contributing to nutrient cycling. Interestingly, despite their name suggesting an affinity for wood, adult Cossidae moths almost do not feed at all; they live solely to reproduce.
