These Ectobius creatures are among the oldest cockroaches, with fossil records dating back over 44 million years. Contrary to popular belief, not all members of this genus are pests. Many Ectobius species play a crucial role in the ecosystem, aiding in the decomposition of dead matter and serving as a food source for various predators. Despite their reputation, studies show these insects are clean and groom themselves as frequently as cats.
