Giant lappet moths
Scientific name: Eupterotidae

Description

These moths are distinguished by their robust bodies and striking patterns, often mimicking fallen leaves or bark — an aesthetic masterstroke of nature's own camouflage. Contrary to the delicate and ephemeral image we usually associate with moths, members of the Eupterotidae family are surprisingly sturdy and can have quite long lifespans. This robustness extends to their larvae as well, which are known not only for their vivid colors but also for their odd habit of sometimes forming 'processions' while moving from one feeding area to another.
