Galacticidae
Scientific name: Galacticidae
Description
Galacticidae is a new family in the order Lepidoptera, which means that previously species in this family were incorrectly classified as belonging to other families. This adjustment in taxonomic status is not arbitrary, but is based on advances in molecular biology, which has enabled us to more accurately distinguish similar species. Galacticidae adults are unremarkable, but its larvae build silk nests on plants, which of course protects the caterpillars themselves, but is unsightly and often a headache for gardeners.
