Description
Gerridae are not just skimming on water for leisure; they are superbly adapted to their aquatic lifestyle. The common misconception might lead one to think they are fragile, but Gerridae's legs are evolutionary marvels. Covered with hydrophobic hairs, they distribute the insect's weight and exploit surface tension to walk on water, an illusion of walking on a liquid mirror. Debunking a charming myth, despite their delicate appearance, water striders are predatory, using their water-walking ability to hunt prey right at the water surface, showcasing nature's blend of grace and predation.
