Description
Although notorious for their potent odor when threatened, members of the Halyomorpha genus actually use this mechanism as a defensive strategy to deter predators, rather than for offensive purposes as often believed. These insects, mistakenly considered messy pests, contribute to biodiversity by forming part of the food web. Contrary to common fears, their secretion, while unpleasant, is not harmful to humans.
