Description
Members of the genus Halysidota are often vilified due to their hairy appearance, which can sometimes cause skin irritation in humans. However, these moths are key players in their ecosystems, serving as pollinators for numerous plants and as food sources for various predators. The larvae, commonly referred to as caterpillars, are particularly noted for their striking tufts of hair, which they use as a defense mechanism against predators by deterring them with the potential irritation these hairs can cause.
