Description

Hyphantria is a genus of moths known for its species' communal larval behavior, which congregate in large, conspicuous webs in trees. These nests are not harmful to humans but can defoliate trees, often causing concern. Contrary to popular belief, these moths do not spread diseases or attack crops directly but can indirectly affect plant health by stripping foliage, which can weaken the trees. Their presence, however, plays a role in the ecosystem, providing food for birds and other predators.
