Square-headed snakeflies
Scientific name: Inocelliidae
Description
Contrary to what one might guess, Inocelliidae are not flies or true bugs but are closer relatives to lacewings and antlions, known collectively as snakeflies due to the elongated 'neck' of their larvae. A common misconception is that snakeflies are venomous, stemming perhaps from their serpentine appearance; however, they are entirely harmless to humans. These insects are adept predators in both their larval and adult stages, primarily feasting on aphids and other small arthropods, playing a crucial role in the natural control of pest populations.
