Description

The genus Ixodes comprises ticks notorious for their role as vectors in transmitting a myriad of diseases, most notably Lyme disease. These arachnids are often misunderstood as insects; however, they belong to the same group as spiders. Contrary to the popular belief that these creatures embed their entire bodies into their host's skin, it is only their specialized mouthparts that penetrate to feed on blood. Properly understanding Ixodes's biology is crucial in preventing the diseases they spread.
