Lasiocampa moths, often unrecognized for their unique traits, belong to a family known for the hairy caterpillars and stout-bodied adults. An interesting fact about them is their ability to produce silk, a capability overshadowed by their more famous relatives, the silkworms. Contrary to popular belief, the silk produced by Lasiocampa caterpillars is rough and less lustrous, primarily used for cocoon construction rather than textile production.
