Description
The larvae of Limnephilidae famously constructing protective cases from silk and natural materials like stones and twigs. These cases are intricate and species-specific, showcasing a natural form of architecture. Contrary to the common belief that all 'flies' are unsanitary, caddisflies play a vital ecological role. They are a key component in freshwater ecosystems, serving as bioindicators of water quality. The adult caddisflies, which often go unnoticed, are equally fascinating, resembling moths with their hairy, moth-like wings which they hold tent-like over their bodies when at rest.
