Description

Lymantriidae have caterpillars that are deceptively beautiful with their vibrant tufts of hair which, despite their inviting appearance, can cause severe dermatitis in humans. This striking characteristic is a defensive mechanism, programmed by nature, to ward off predators by using irritant hairs.
