Description
Belonging to the family Muscidae, these creatures are often mistakenly perceived as mere nuisances. However, they play pivotal roles in the ecosystem, such as pollinating plants and recycling nutrients by decomposing organic material. Among Muscidae, the housefly is perhaps the most well-recognized, often vilified for spreading diseases. Scientifically, they can indeed carry pathogens, but they also contribute to biodiversity and the food web by serving as vital prey for numerous bird and insect species. This family showcases the complex balance between their negative impacts on human health and their indispensable ecological roles.
