Short-horned springtails
Scientific name: Neelidae
Description
Neelidae are very tiny springtails, with an average body length of only about 500 microns. Unlike most springtails, their bodies are spherical, not the common long strips. For most people, springtails are a very unfamiliar group. They are not even enough to be called insects, but an independent group, although their appearance is very similar to insects. Springtails are an important part of the soil ecosystem, not only promoting nutrient cycling but also regulating the population structure and number of microorganisms in the soil.
