Nemastomatid harvestmen
Scientific name: Nemastomatidae
Description
Often mistaken for spiders due to their segmented bodies and eight legs, members of the Nemastomatidae are actually distinct. Unlike spiders that have two body segments, Nemastomatidae have a single, fused body segment, setting them apart visually and anatomically. These creatures also lack silk glands and venom, which are typical characteristics of spiders, making them harmless to humans. Nemastomatidae specialize in living in moist, sheltered environments, often under rocks or deep within leaf litter.
