Description

Oligotoma are a lesser-known genus of insects, commonly noted for their unique ability to spin silk. Unlike the more famous silk moths, members of Oligotoma produce silk from glands in their forelegs, which they use to construct intricate tunnels for protection and communal living. These insects exhibit fascinating social behaviors and are crucial in natural recycling processes, yet they are often overlooked in studies of biodiversity.
