Opilio
Scientific name: Opilio
Description
Members of the genus Opilio are often mistaken for spiders due to their long legs and segmented bodies, but they are actually harvestmen and belong to a different order entirely. While they share an arachnid lineage, Opilio differ in their fused body structure that appears as a single oval unit, unlike the distinct two-segment body of true spiders. Fascinatingly, Opilio are known for their ability to detach a leg to escape predators, a leg which may continue to twitch, misleading threats long enough for the harvestman to escape.
