Description

Unlike their common relatives, the midges and mosquitoes that provoke annoyance, Pediciidae play a subtle yet crucial role in ecosystems. They are primarily known for their larvae stages, which inhabit a variety of aquatic environments. Intriguingly, despite the widespread myth that all crane flies are voracious plant pests, members of the Pediciidae family are mostly harmless, feeding on decaying vegetation and contributing to nutrient cycling.
