Description
The Perlidae, inhabit freshwater environments and are highly sensitive to water quality, making them excellent bioindicators of river health. Contrary to the robust appearance, these insects are quite vulnerable; their presence signals clean, well-oxygenated water. Interestingly, while many might overlook stoneflies due to their less conspicuous behavior compared to more vibrant aquatic insects, their life cycle and behaviors are fascinating - such as their unique drumming mating calls, an acoustic trait rare among insects.
