Running crab spiders
Scientific name: Philodromidae
Description
Despite their name, members of the Philodromidae family are not typical prowlers of open spaces but are often mistaken as such due to their agility and speed. Known as 'running crab spiders,' they defy the crab-like sideways motion commonly associated with their namesakes. Adapting a straightforward sprint when chasing prey, these spiders exhibit a fascinating aspect of evolutionary design tailored for rapid hunting, unlike their crab analogs. Contrary to common fears, Philodromidae spiders are harmless to humans; their venom is designed for subduing much smaller, insect prey.
