Description

Members of the genus Porcellio are fascinating terrestrial crustaceans part of the larger isopod group, commonly mistaken as insects. Unlike true insects which have six legs, Porcellio species boast a robust set of fourteen legs adapted for their life on land. Known for their intriguing ability to roll into a ball as a defensive tactic, Porcellio play a crucial role in ecosystem nutrient cycles by breaking down decaying matter, thus enriching the soil and supporting plant growth.
