Description
Members of the Psychidae family are artisan builders from birth, constructing elaborate cases out of silk, debris, and vegetation, which they use to protect their developing bodies. What sets them apart further is the gender disparity in adult mobility. While females mostly remain stationary within their mobile homes, males develop wings and take flight in search of partners. Contrary to common belief, these insects aren’t just roving cloth destroyers; their larvae mainly feed on lichens and plant detritus, playing a significant ecological role in nutrient cycling and habitat structuring.
