Description
Among the somewhat overlooked marvels of the natural world belong the members of the Pterophoridae family, commonly known as plume moths. With their unique 'T' shaped resting stance and feather-like wings, these moths break the conventional moth silhouette, confounding the inexperienced into mistaking them for curious, open scissors at twilight! Another fascinating aspect is their unusual wing structure, which is split into several plume-like sections, aiding their soft, stealthy flight. Far from being pests, some Pterophoridae larvae are vital in controlling invasive plants, making their role in ecosystems quietly crucial.
