Description
Reticulitermes are remarkable constructors, known for creating intricate mud tunnels and formidable colonies. Contrary to some myths, Reticulitermes do not eat wood for its taste but for the cellulose it contains, which they digest with the help of unique microorganisms in their gut. This misunderstood genus is often seen purely as a pest; however, their role in decomposing wood helps recycle nutrients back into ecosystems.
