Description
The nocturnal Scotophaeus genus might seem like just another unremarkable group of ground spiders, but they exhibit a remarkable adaptation unseen in many of their kin. One misconception is that all spiders rely primarily on their webs for hunting; however, Scotophaeus species defy this stereotype by being active hunters who use stealth and speed to capture their prey directly on the ground. Their velvet-like body, which aids in camouflage during their nighttime escapades, is a testament to their evolved hunting strategy.
