Narrow barklice
Scientific name: Stenopsocidae
Description
The Stenopsocidae may not be household names, but their contribution to ecological balance is noteworthy. Belonging to the order Psocoptera, members of the Stenopsocidae family are intriguing because they are bark-dwelling insects often mistaken for pests. However, despite their preference for tree habitats, these psocids do little to harm their wooden hosts. Instead, they feed primarily on fungi and algae, playing a crucial role in the nutrient cycle of forest ecosystems. Their presence helps in decomposing organic matter, thus fostering biodiversity.
