Large carpenter bees
Scientific name: Xylocopa

Description

Xylocopa are often mistaken as bumblebees due to their size and robust build, but they are solitary carpenter bees that burrow into wood to nest. Unlike termites, Xylocopa do not eat the wood but excavate tunnels to raise their young. These bees play an essential role in pollination, especially of open-faced flowers. Their ability to 'buzz pollinate' makes them vital pollinators for some types of crops and wild plants.
