Description
Andrena is a genus often overshadowed by the popularity of honeybees, yet it carries its unique significance in ecosystems. These solitary bees are crucial for early spring pollination, often emerging when temperatures are still too cool for their more famous cousins. Unlike social bees, individuals in Andrena build and manage their nests alone, displaying an astonishing resilience and resourcefulness. Interestingly, while many assume all bees produce honey, Andrena species focus on pollinating without creating honey, underscoring their role as unsung heroes of the pollination world.
