Description
Members of the genus Arge are a riveting group of sawflies. Contrary to popular belief, sawflies are not flies at all; they belong to the order Hymenoptera, sharing the lineage with bees and wasps. The larvae of Arge resemble caterpillars but are distinguishable by the number of prolegs and their feeding habits on foliage. These creatures play a role in the ecosystem as both prey and pollinators, bridging a vital gap in the biological web.
