Description
Despite bearing a resemblance to flies, members of Argidae are actually more closely related to wasps. These insects are equipped with a unique 'saw-like' ovipositor which they use not for defense, but for laying eggs inside plant tissue. This not only aids in the survival of their larvae by providing immediate nourishment but also intrigues entomologists due to the ecological implications. Dispelling the myth, these are neither harmful to humans nor are they capable of biting or stinging, contrary to the aggressive demeanor of their wasp relatives.
