Description

Members of the genus Aromia are notable for their vibrant, metallic colors and a unique, musky odor they emit when disturbed, hinting at their common moniker related to a certain biblical resin. These longhorn beetles often mimic the appearance of wasps, which deters predators without the need for a real sting. Found primarily on willow trees and other softwoods, Aromia serve an essential role in their ecosystem by helping decompose decaying wood, facilitating nutrient cycling and forest regeneration.
