Pill beetles
Scientific name: Byrrhidae
Description
Due to their size, Byrrhidae is not well-known to people. They often inhabit moss, which is also the source of their common name — they are also known as Moss Beetles. Interestingly, these timid creatures exhibit thanatosis, a trait that refers to their reflex to retract all appendages (including antennae and six legs) tightly against their bodies when they perceive a threat, in order to evade danger. This characteristic enhances their chances of survival in a world filled with large creatures.
