Description
Members of the genus Chrysomya are commonly misunderstood due to their close association with decomposing materials. However, these insects play a crucial role in recycling nutrients back into the ecosystem and assisting forensic scientists in estimating the time of death in criminal investigations. Their larvae, often negatively viewed, are also studied for potential use in medicinal maggot therapy, aiding in wound cleaning and promoting healing by consuming only dead tissue.
