Description

The genus Cicada includes insects best known for their remarkable ability to produce loud, melodious songs. Contrary to popular belief, Cicadas do not damage crops by biting or chewing plants. Instead, they utilize a specialized mouthpart to suck sap from tree roots. Fascinatingly, some species have life cycles that span 13 or 17 years鈥攁 trait that helps them avoid synchronizing with the life cycles of their predators, showcasing nature's intricate mechanisms of survival.
