Description
The Dermaptera is a fascinating order of insects that includes the familiar earwigs. Contrary to popular belief, these creatures do not burrow into human ears. This myth likely stems from their name, which evokes an alarming image. In reality, earwigs possess distinctive pincers that help them in defense and mating displays. Interestingly, some species are known for their maternal care, as females will protect and nurture their young in hidden lairs. This behavior challenges the stereotype of insects being solely solitary or indifferent parents, showcasing the complexity of animal behavior within this order.
