Description
The order Ephemeroptera, known for its brief adult lifespan, presents a fascinating paradox in the animal kingdom. While many people envision insects living long lives, members of this order spend most of their lives as aquatic nymphs, sometimes lasting several years. The adults, however, emerge solely to mate and generally live only for a day or two. A common myth suggests that mayflies are attracted to lights, leading to their frequent appearances around streetlamps. In reality, this behavior is not unique to them, as many insects are drawn to light sources, making the mayfly's appearance less extraordinary than it seems.
