Description
Members of the family Mordellidae, commonly known as tumbling flower beetles, have a peculiar hump-backed appearance and engage in rapid, unpredictable movements, earning them their playful moniker. Contrary to what one might guess from their common name, these beetles do not 'tumble' because of clumsiness but rather as a swift escape mechanism when threatened. This family of beetles is remarkable not only for their unique morphology and behavior but also for their ecological role as pollinators. They frequent a variety of flowers, contributing to pollination, yet this aspect of their biology is less known.
